Willingdon Creek Village, a residential care facility spanning over 70,000 sq ft, was constructed for Vancouver Coastal Health. Situated within the premises of Powell River General Hospital, this expansive complex provides 102 beds across six distinctive houses.
This state-of-the-art facility has replaced the previous 81-bed Olive Devaud residence. Notably, it’s linked to the hospital via an underground tunnel, streamlining various services such as housekeeping, laundry, nutritional services, and facilities maintenance. The hospital’s kitchen prepares meals which are then transported through the tunnel to the residents. Laundry services are also managed by the hospital.
Each house within the facility is uniquely characterized by a distinct theme, adding nuances of forest, mountain, river, and beach environments through varied finishes and color schemes throughout the building.
Echoing the architectural style prevalent in Townsite, the homes feature pitched roofs, gable ends, and a facade that mimics wood siding, crafted from non-combustible cement wood material. The entrance is marked by grand cedar timbers, sourced locally, adding to the welcoming appeal of the facility.
